Welcome to Art Skills 101! You are probably here because you wish to be a better artist -- or possibly you just were curious what "Art Skills 101" is supposed to mean. If you don't know the term "101" before, it essentially means "the basics". It's always the first class you'll have to take before anything at a college.
Why does this exist?
The reason this section exists is for every amateur artist out there who wants to improve. When I was a child, I wanted to learn how to become a better artist -- an amazing artist, even -- and there were very few places online I could turn to. Now that I'm an adult, there are many things I've learned through hard work and luck, and I wish to impart them to you. Not only this, but I've also received many an email or message along the lines of:
- "How do you draw so well?"
- "Can you critique my art?"
- or, a favorite: "Teach me to draw dragons!"
As you can guess, this is not such an easy thing to explain over email -- especially when you're only sending it to one person and you've received the question many times over from several different sources.
So the solution is this: I wanted to provide a one place where artists of any skill level can come, read, and learn how to do the things they stuggle with. Best thing is, I'm only telling you how; you're the one who gets to teach yourself how to really do it.
How can I help?
Spread the word. My hope is to include tutorials and words of advice from not only myself but from artists all over the internet. So, if you are such a person and you have a tutorial or would like to post a tutorial here, please send me an email. I'd be delighted to hear your ideas. If you have any ideas for tutorials, or anything you particularly struggle with that isn't listed here, send me an email, too.
